JUNE 11 , 2008.
Today was our second day of orientation at SIMS. we performed a business exercise .
THE TASK: we were divided as teams of two and called ourselves each others buddy. we were left without a penny on the roads and were asked to find a job for ourselves at the camp area and earn a minimum of hundred rupees each. our task was to end at the railway station at 4.30 pm.
MY EXPERIENCE: Me and my buddy Nikhil Khurana left the SIMS campus at around 9.45 am.
we asked for lift from passing cars and after around 15 minutes or so managed to convince somebody to drop us at camp area. I actually understood how important and useful it is to wear a saree during this time because i am sure that if we would not have been dressed like professionals we wouldn't have managed to get a lift because of so many incidents of thefts and mishaps. After we reached the camp our first destination was the SGS mall which was unfortunately closed at that timer. Then we moved to a number of hotels which also turned us down saying that their managers are not present and thus the work cannot be delegated to us.
Than we tried retail stores and pleaded them to give us any job .After so many rejections we were ready to do any thing from selling to cleaning. Finally we were successful to get a job. We were to distribute pamphlets of LOOT MART showroom which had its sale on and was advertising that. The manager agreed to give us Rs 100 each. So we begun our job. Nikhil stood in front of the shop and i stiood on the opposite side. People were amazed to a girl in sophisticated dress standing on the street and distributing the pamphlets. But that worked for me because people wanted to know what am i advertising. So we managed to turn a lot of customers to LOOT MART. It was an amazing response . when we got the job there was nobody in the shop and we sent around 20 customers to the shop. IOne person got so impressed that he gave me his card. he was working with a placement service company, so i hope i brought something useful for my seniors and batchmates. The shopkeeper gave us Rs 300 instead of 200 because of good turnover. We were done with this job by 1pm. Then we moved on to look for another option but it took us two hours to get another job. Our second job was at a restraunt called MIRCHI KOLA. We earned only Rs 100 for one and a half hour service. BUT we were happy to earn Rs 200 each after long day of hard work.
MY LEARNING: Today i realised how difficult it is to earn a penny. We roamed about in sun with our feet hurting. It made us felt the importance of the money we spend lavishly for a movie or any ather luxury. It is especially very tough for a person who doesn't have fixed job and earns a daily wage. I am sure from today i know how to spend and earn money both. It was a wonderful experience.
THANKS GIVING: Sir i thank you for giving us such a wonderful experience. you surely added value to us. THANK YOU.
